WordPress Tutorial: How to edit WordPress Posts and Pages in Full Screen Mode

by jupiterjim on December 11, 2011

Editing WordPress Blog Posts in Full Screen mode

In this WordPress Tutorial, I show you how to edit WordPress posts and pages using the full screen mode. This gives you much more room for editing text and makes the whole post creation process easier.   I show you where the kitchen sink icon is on the editing toolbar.  I show you how to switch from Visual Editing to HTML editing and back.

You should be using at least WordPress 3.0 version.  As of the time of this post, the latest version is WordPress 3.2.1 . I have a video tutorial on my site that shows you the proper way to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. To find this tutorial, just click on the WordPress Tutorial link in the navigation bar at the top of this website and scroll down the page to find it the link to that post.

On YouTube, I also have a very helpful WordPress Video Tutorial on how to create a blog post, and another WordPress video tutorial on the proper workflow to use when creating a WordPress blog post or page.

Hey Jim – I love this tutorial series.

I’ve often thought about doing something similar, but we can’t do everything, right?

These basics may seem ridiculously obvious to experienced bloggers, but when you’re a beginner, a good step by step guide really helps, and that’s what you’ve provided.

Even after a couple of years, I still keep finding little tricks like the one you’ve shared here for full screen editing – I wish I’d had some more tutorials like yours from the word go.

Very nice tutorial. Because of the time rush I never notice that. But I think I should use this technique for more efficiency. BTW, Worpress 3.3 is just released today.

Hi Jim,

Great tutorial once again. Though full screen mode allows me to see more of what I am typing, sometimes, I’m just so use with the default setting and too lazy to check out other options. Haha. But surely, this post is helpful for lots of people. Keep it up!

Hello Jim

This is quiet interesting since having it on full screen allows you to see a clearer view of everything. I sometimes did that but most of the time I prefer to have it on defaults,

Simple but really useful tutorial Jim! I know that not many bloggers know of this and even those that know, including myself, forget that you can edit WP posts in full screen. I find myself squinting a lot of times because of the small screen!

I am sorry but I do not. I just know that there are “templates” or themes for WordPress and the only theme I work with is Thesis theme. I hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing this, Jim. A lot of beginners would really appreciate this. One thing I would add is that when upgrading your Wordpress version, you should wait for at least a week after the updated version has come out to give time for the plugins to catch up and update as well. That way, you avoid the risk of having to deal with broken plugins.

Great tutorial and a good reminder for me. I don’t normally even think about it because I write and fully edit my articles off line – then just paste them in – review once and push that publish button.
