Thesis Tutorial: Add Facebook Social Plugin for “Comments” to your WordPress Thesis Theme Site

by jupiterjim on February 8, 2012

In this Thesis Tutorial I show you how to add a Facebook Social Plugin for “Comments” to your WordPress Thesis Theme blog or website.  This is a really cool plugin that will allow people to comment on your blog post or page and share it on their Facebook Wall at the same time!  That makes it easier for the person commenting on your blog and gives your blog post so much more exposure and visibility. You can find all the details for the Facebook Social Plugin for Comments here in written form.  However, my video shares some critical information with you that I could not find on the Facebook web page about sharing the individual posts.

Get your Facebook Application ID first!

Before you install this plugin, however, you need to create a Facebook Application or Facebook App and get an App ID. It’s sounds complicated but it’s really very simple and easy to do.  I have created a short video that shows you step-by-step how to create a Facebook Application and get an App ID here.   Once you create that Facebook Application and get that App ID you can come back here an watch this video to complete the steps.  It’s all so much easier than it sounds and my videos make it all very easy to follow.

Thanks for this great video. It simplify the work load.

Question:

Once I open https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/ and I log in, I am taking to my facebook page and I can’t see where I to locate the Application Secret and Application ID

OR is the Application Secret and Application ID only for individual facebook account? Can facebook page also get Application Secret and Application ID?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for making this video tutorial, allowing facebook comments is certainly a plus for a blog so it certainly worth it to add it, I will probably add it in my thesis blog in the future…

This is really interesting Jim – I’d actually like to do it the other way around and have my blog posts show up on my FB page. It seems to me I’ve seen that somewhere so I’ll have to go searching … thanks for the inspiration!

This is a great tutorial. I have not decided yet if I want to use the plugin as I am pretty strict about how many I use. I am actually trying to urge Andy Bailey to add a FB field in like the Twitter (I will probably write the snippet) that he can add to CommentLuv Premium and then offer it as a tutorial.

I will have to do some A/B testing to see if applying this to mine would help my site.

Nile,

I hate to add plugins, too. Since this is not the typical plugin that you upload or install to a WordPress blog, you just copy and paste some code in the header.php and on each blog post, I am hoping that the code is shorter, cleaner and won’t interfere with other plugins that use the conventional plugin install method, although I just don’t know enough about the plugins and the PHP codding, YET, to be sure.

And, yes, I gotta say I LOVE the CommentLuv Premium plugin! Glad you like it, too. Andy has done a great job with it!

Great tutorial Jim! I’m an avid CommentLuv fan but I see a lot of blogs using this plugin if they want to draw attention to their Facebook pages. I know that they are using this on ReelSEO and Animoto – two blogs that I frequent and it seems to work great for them. Thanks for sharing your valuable expertise as always!
