Create a Static Home Page or Front Page using WordPress 3.5

by jupiterjim on January 19, 2013

In this WordPress Tutorial I show you how to make your Home Page or Front Page be a static page (for instance, your “About” page) instead of the typical Home Page which is the Blog Loop or all the latest blog posts.   It’s quite easy to do and all you need to do is watch my 5-minute video below.  Please leave a comment if you like it.  Thanks.

Jim,
thanks so much for this very interesting video tutorial on teh WP 3.5.. It is so easy once watching you do it… I wonder how I do when I get to it. Well, I cannot do it now, I still did not update to 3:5, but look forward to do it soon if I get some help :-)

Thanks again.

As often happens, Jim, you’ve pointed out something I had never even considered and made it extremely simple. Now all I need to do is decide what I want my home page to look like if I DO decide to go this route. Thanks!

Most of the time I don’t make comments on websites, but I’d like to say that this article really forced me to do so. Really nice post!

Hey Jim,

I like using this function and then inserting a code to show latest post at the bottom or wherever I specify just to keep Google happy (not to mention the readers too). I like your website. Good idea with 75 tutorials with Wordpress. I too use Wordpress. I like it a lot. I will be sharing some of your tutorials on Hootsuite. My readers will love this!

The static page feature is one of those little things that makes Wordpress such a giant in the industry, Jim.

I think, sometimes, WP is so simple that people overlook its power.

The static page is a good example. I personally think it’s best reserved for personal branding rather than blatant promotion. And I believe that what you choose for your static home page will deeply effect the SEO ranking of your site.

So, while it’s easy to do, give weighty consideration to its implications.

Hi Jim,
thank you so much for the very clear tutorial.

It was good to have a refresher about this, since a friend asked me to add a blog to her website. Even though she is using another theme this is very helpful.

Cheers,
Yorinda

Hi Jim,

Great video, these are the exact setting that can be very confusing . It is very good how you explained how to use menus. If you have a moment I would find it interesting to see lessons how to use code for wordpress.

Many thanks for taking the time to make this video.
