This WordPress Tutorial shows you the proper way to update to WordPress 3.3.2

Here are the basic steps for updating to WordPress 3.3.2 –

1. Backup the database and files to WordPress site.
2. De-activate your WordPress theme.
3. De-activate all your active plugins.
4. Update to WordPress 3.3.2
5. Re-Activate your WordPress Theme.
6. Update your plugins.
7. Re-Activate your plugins.
8. Done.   Breath a sigh of relief!

Just last Saturday, my YouTube Channel went over 50,000 video views!  If each video lasts about 8 minutes, then that means that these WordPress and Thesis Theme Video Tutorials have given over 6,500 hours of free instruction to my video viewers around the world.  I currently have over 75 Free Video Tutorials on WordPress and the Thesis Theme for WordPress.  That’s over 10 hours worth of Free Video Tutorials for my YouTube Viewers and blog followers.

Why I Create WordPress Video Tutorials

Because when I first started learning WordPress in January 2010, it was hard to find good video tutorials on the subject.  Then when I first started using the Thesis Theme in March of 2010, there was also a dearth of good Thesis Theme video tutorials that could be found in one place.   Sometimes I would find text tutorials, here and there, but I would think to myself, “If I wasn’t a professional web designer, I would never be able to follow this written tutorial.”    After I would create a WordPress website for a client, I would show them how to use it.  Instead of repeating the same lessons over and over until the client understood and memorized the steps, I figured I could save myself, and the client, a lot of time and energy by creating these video tutorials for them.   That way the client could watch them over and over at their own convenience, any time of day.

I was frustrated because I felt that so many more people could be using WordPress and the Thesis Theme for WordPress if someone could just show them how easy it all was.

I felt if I could create high quality WordPress and Thesis Theme Video Tutorials, that I could teach thousands of people all across the Globe at all hours of the day – even when I was sleeping.

That, in turn, would help me to achieve the Mission Statement of Jupiter Jim’s Marketing Team – “To help as many receptive people as I can become financially free through their WordPress blogs and websites.”

I also believe that we are all born with innate talents.  A talent is something that you are good at doing and love to do.  Well, thankfully and humbly, I was blessed with a gift from God to teach. That’s one of my innate talents — teaching.  I love to teach and people have always told me that I’m good at it. So that’s another reason I create these tutorials – because I enjoy it and it makes me feel useful.  If you also think I’m a good teacher, feel free to leave a short testimonial about my videos here.

So Why do I Offer The WordPress and Thesis Theme Video Tutorials for Free?

There are a number of reasons that I don’t charge, at this time, to access any of my videos.  Someday I probably will charge money for some of my videos, but not all, and not now.  As I mentioned earlier, I enjoy teaching and I enjoy helping people, so that creating these video tutorials allows me to do both.  It’s a labor of love for me.

As a CIW Certified Master Site Designer, these videos also show people who want me to design their WordPress blog or website, an idea of my skill level and my ability to teach.  In all modesty, I believe these videos give me instant credibility with anyone that is contemplating working with me.

These WordPress and Thesis Theme Video Tutorials are also great advertising for Jupiter Jim’s Marketing Team.   Anyone anywhere in the world can share (or embed) my videos on their blog or website as long as they don’t charge any money for my videos or modify them in any way.   On each video there is always a watermark in the lower right-hand corner, JupiterJim.com, so I get credit, and a little advertising every time someone sees my video, no matter where they view it.

In this Thesis Theme Tutorial I show you how to add Google Analytics to your self-hosted WordPress blog that uses the Thesis Theme 1.8.4.   This thesis video tutorial applies to Thesis Theme versions 1.8.3 and 1.8.2 as well. It may apply to earlier versions than that, but I truly don’t have the time to test them out right now.   By watching this Thesis Video Tutorial, you will see that there are only two places you can possibly place the Google Analytics tracking code and I show you both possible places.

However, the correct place to place the Google Analytics tracking code for Thesis Theme 1.8.4 is in the spot for “additional scripts” in the Thesis Theme “Site Options” panel which is surrounded by the red line in the graphic image below.  In the thesis video tutorial included in this post, you will see clearly that Google says to place the tracking code just before the closing “</head>” tag.   By adding the Google Analytics tracking code to the bottom of the section of the box in “additional scripts”, the tracking code will be placed just before the closing “</head>” HTML tag.  As a point of interest, in the top portion of every web page there should almost always be an opening
“<head>” HTML tag and a closing HTML “</head>” tag.

Whenever I placed the Google Tracking code into the section called “Stat and Tracking Scripts”, then Google would not verify that I had installed the tracking code on the correct website, so I strongly recommend that you do NOT waste your time trying it.  If you do and it works for you, let us know.
