Thesis Tutorial: Best Way to Add Banner to Feature Box in Thesis Theme

In this thesis tutorial video, I show you what I believe is the simplest, fastest, easiest, best method for adding a really cool banner to the Feature Box in your WordPress blog that uses the Thesis Theme.

I would like to give a Special Thanks to John Sexton, Ph.D. and DIYThemes for providing the code and ‘godhammer‘ at DIYThemes for helping me to tweak and customize the code.

If you need help tweaking the code further,  leave a comment below or head on over to http://w3schools.com/ .

Place the following code in the custom_functions.php file:

/* START of Best Banner in Feature Box PHP */

function featured_image_feature_box(){
?>

	<div id="bestbanner" >

<img src=" Paste Banner URL here! " />

        </div>

<?php }

add_action('thesis_hook_feature_box','featured_image_feature_box');

/* END of Best Banner in Feature Box PHP */

And place the following code in the custom.css file:

/* START of Best Banner in Feature Box CSS */

.custom div#bestbanner {

           text-align: center;  padding-top: 30px; margin-top: 1.5em; margin-bottom:

1.5em;
}

 #feature_box { background: none; border:none; }

/* END of Best Banner in Feature Box CSS */

    I’m using free themes and don’t have the luxury of time to tweak some codes. But I love the tutorial here. I might refer to this post for future use. 🙂

    I do the thesis simple because it’s just a propose program. Hope to have a harder thesis that needs implementation. I miss coding.

    The most of people all use the themes for free and do not too much care about its code, so do I :D, but thank you for your tutorial, I really enjoy it.

    I have to say I am not as nice when it comes to documentation, so I am really happy to see you documenting your code snippets. Kim threw me a bunch of spaghetti code for her site and I had to wade through it and it would have been easier if it were documented.

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks so much for this valuable tutorial. I am finding features within Thesis theme I never knew about! no good having features I don’t know about but that’s why I know you!!! The featured box is very helpful to give an overall message to the reader when they land on the site and to encourage them to stay!

    You are an awesome teacher!

    regards
    Clare

      Clare,

      glad you like this tutorial. This is another one that is kinda hard to figure out just by reading the tutorial on http://diythemes.com/ . Once you see the video, it all becomes pretty easy though, huh? Plus like you said this is feature of Thesis Theme that really isn’t too well known out there!
